Touching Luck 2025
The custom of touching the lion's snouts at the Munich Residence dates back to a legend from 1848: a student had written a satirical piece about Lola Montez, bravely confessed his deed to King Ludwig I and even received the bounty that had been offered for his capture. Relieved, he leaned on the lion's snout as he left the Residenz. Since then, touching it has been considered a good luck charm. Does it still work today? Probably not: the originals have since been replaced by replicas.
